Financial protection
What happens to your money between paying us and coming home. Which scheme covers you depends on what you booked — here is each case.
Is my booking protected?
All bookings placed through Nexo Travel are protected. How, depends on what you bought.
Package holidays — ATOL
All flight-inclusive package holidays on this website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme.
Your money is ATOL protected, meaning that in the unlikely event of our insolvency or the insolvency of one or more of your travel providers you will be able to continue with your holiday, or a suitable alternative at no extra cost, or receive a refund of the amount paid to us.
Flights on their own
We sell three types of flight and all three are protected. The sum refunded is the cost of the flight itself, up to a maximum claim of £2,000 per passenger.
Card payment and agency transaction fees are relatively small incidental costs, are outside the scope of the scheme, and will not be refunded.
Hotels on their own
All hotel bookings are protected. You will be offered the option of transferring the money to be credited against another hotel booking, or receiving a refund.
Everything else
All other products sold on this site are also protected. You will be offered the option of transferring the money against an alternative booking where one is available, or receiving a refund.
The three flight types, and who pays out
They are protected differently, which matters if you ever have to claim.
| Flight type | How it is protected | Maximum claim |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled | Protected via an insurance scheme. We claim the refund from the designated insurance company and pass it on to you. | £2,000 per passenger |
| Low cost | Protected via an insurance scheme. We claim the refund from the designated insurance company and pass it on to you. | £2,000 per passenger |
| Charter | All charter operators whose flights appear on this site hold ATOL licences. Protected via the ATOL scheme operated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Refunds are provided by the CAA direct to you. | Per the ATOL scheme |
If you are already abroad when a failure happens
Where a replacement return flight is provided free of charge, no claim arises. Where no replacement flight is provided, any claim is limited to the lower of the original price paid for the flight and the actual price paid for the replacement flight back to the UK — to a maximum of £2,000 per passenger.
Am I protected if Nexo Travel becomes insolvent?
You are protected if you buy a Single-Contract Package or a Multi-Contract Package from us. Nexo Travel when selling travel arrangements is a trading name of The Midcounties Co-operative Ltd. Nexo Travel Limited is an Accredited Body Member of Midcounties Co-operative Travel Consortium. Our membership numbers are ABTA P7465 and ATOL 11016.
Your ATOL Certificate is the thing that matters
ATOL protection does not apply to every holiday and travel service sold on this website. The certificate is how you tell:
- No ATOL Certificate → the booking is not ATOL protected.
- A certificate that does not list every part of your trip → the parts not listed are not ATOL protected.
So read it when it arrives rather than filing it. If anything on it does not match what you think you booked, call us on 020 4621 8999 straight away. You can also ask us to confirm what protection applies before you pay.
More about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate: atol.org.uk/ATOLCertificate. The detail of our obligations is in our booking conditions, section 8.
What none of this covers
Financial protection covers failure of the company — ours or a supplier's. It is not travel insurance. It does not pay out if you cancel, fall ill, miss a flight, lose a bag or need treatment abroad. That is a separate policy, and you should have one: see travel protection.
Not sure what covers your booking?
Ask us before you pay — we will tell you exactly which scheme applies.
